...yes, but Sierra Leone has never suffered from lack of natural resources. It's the HANDLING of those resources that will make a difference, no?

I wonder how this works. does anybody know how a country participates on it resources like an oilfield? or was the deal already made with these oil companies and all the profit goes to them? or do they have to pay taxes  per barrel? any idea?

Genuinely horrifying, depressing news...Yet another curse...It's all too predictable: a multinational will more than handsomely benefit and make little contribution, the meagre tax revenues collected will go unaccounted for and be squandered, while those least in the position to do so will bear the enviromental externalities. Don't expect much.

Oh, and did I mention, the high paying jobs would be outsourced to non-domiciles while the few jobs available to Sierra Leoneans would be paying a pittance in hard and trying conditions.

Now the hard work starts, negotiations and marketing are the key to getting an appropriate deal that will benefit Sierra Leone and her people.

So, lets not get too excited just yet and hope that the individual or parties appointed by the President would be those that seek the interest of the country first instead of their own and most importantly knows what they are doing.

It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life for me and I'm feeling good. Peace!!

Good thing I did not put off my plan of re-opening "Omar khayam"  and "Long step".  Well, the John Bulls, Yankees and Kata Wongs  will need spots to change their oil after a long flight, having cassava leaves with walah rice, instead of the routine marmite on burnt toast. I know that the oil wealth won't  trickle down to me, but with my Bowarahs and Khrrhn HNgbasas in kekteh Konkos..............man sef mos lick een arn.
